The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its three-time presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama are being held in contempt by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for holding the nation hostage in 2020 when they illegally rejected the results of the December elections.
Prior to the December 17 National Delegates Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the eventual national chairman, revealed that the party’s evidence presented by the previous national chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo to contest the 2020 defeat was insufficient.
He discussed how legal authority Tsatsu Tsikata questioned the foundation of Mr Ofosu Ampofo’s proof to contest the presidential election.
The petition was ultimately unanimously rejected by the seven justices of Ghana’s highest court, but the main opposition party nevertheless proceeded to court.
On Wednesday, December 21, General Secretary of the NPP Justin Frimpong Kodua claimed that by rejecting the results, the NDC was just looking to destabilize the nation.
He is thus requesting an unreserved apology from Mr Mahama, who led the NDC to victory at the polls, on behalf of the party to the esteemed justices of the Supreme Court and the Ghanaian people in general.
“We, therefore, wish to reiterate our demand from John Dramani Mahama and the NDC leadership on account of their own confession to render an unqualified apology first to the nation’s judiciary which they have bastardized without justification, and to the rest of the country for wasting our precious time and creating unnecessary tension in the aftermath of the 2020 elections.
“They must render an unqualified apology to the good people of Ghana.”
