The Department of Children under the auspices of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) – in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana – has organized its Fourth Quarter National Child Protection Committee (NCPC)meeting on Thursday 26th January, 2023.
The objectives of the meeting was to brief partners on the ‘I WILL’ Campaign, present the 4th Quarter Reports to partners and discuss issues emanating from the 4th Quarter Regional Child Protection Committee meetings among others.
In a statement read on behalf of the Chief Director and Chairperson of the Committee, Dr Afisah Zakariah, the Ag. Director of the Department of Children, Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey noted that the committee meeting serves as a platform where all child protection issues are discussed, providing steps and appropriate intervention to address them.
According to her, it has become necessary for Ghana to have a framework in dealing with child protection issues in case of emergency or natural disaster.
The move, she said will help the government and the citizenry to prepare for the future occurrences.
Ghana has been facing issues of children protection as child labour, child prostitution and abuse continue to fester in spite of interventions.
Ghana is expected to accelerate various interventions and implementation strategies to achieve targets of enhanced protection of children.
