The Abuakwa North Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) made up of Armed Police ,NIB, and National Security with support from a group of farmers are launching massive operation to flush out nomadic Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from the municipality.
The operation which begins today Monday February 13,2023 follows 4-day ultimatum issued to the nomadic herdsmen who have invaded the municipality with over 10,000 cattle to vacate else faces brute expulsion.
Even though the invasion of the herdsmen and their cattle are seasonal ,the number has doubled this time around due to the ongoing clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Afram plains.
The cattle have invaded farming communities such as Sokode Juaso, kyekyewere, and Mpaemu No 1&2 in Abuakwa North Municipality destroying crops of farmers affecting their source of livelihood.
At a joint press conference held in Akyem Kukurantumi last week Wednesday by MUSEC, Chiefs and farmers the MCE for Abuakwa North Alhaji Umar Bodinga who is also the MUSEC chairman said ,the municipality is no go area for Fulani nomadic herdsmen therefore will not entertain them to destroy crops of farmers .
He said armed police with support of community members will be mobilized to flush out the herdsmen if they failed to leave after the 4-day ultimatum.
Alhaji Bodinga stated that, the action is a proactive measure to prevent security challenges such as clashes between farmers and herdsmen over destruction of crops, rapes, and highway armed robbery that characterize areas where nomadic herdsmen operate with impunity.
Some leaders of the Kukurantumi farmers Association told Bryt News, the arrival of the cattle has led to destructions of their crops and unleashed terror.
According to them, many female farmers are afraid to go to farm for fear of being attacked and sexually harassed.
The farmers say they are ready to partner the security agencies to flush out the herdsmen and their cattle .
