The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Thomas Ampem Nyarko says recklessness of Akufo Addo -Bawumia led government is the cause of Ghana’s economic crises .
Debating on the floor of Parliament Tuesday on the state of the nations address delivered last week by President Akufo Addo in Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko likened the address to a student who chewed answers about types of rainfall to reproduce same in exams but met question about tropical rain forest yet decided to pour what he has chewed as answer, to suggest that Akufo Addo deviated on the true state of the nation.
He said President Akufo Addo refused to admit the hardship Ghanaians are going through to take responsibility to carry the country along in finding solutions.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko said President Akufo Addo has been reckless from the word go when he appointed 125 ministers, the largest size of government ever in the fourth Republic.
He also pointed out misappropriation of COVID-19 funds as some of the reckless decisions that have thrown Ghana’s economy into debt distress.
“Ghana’s cedis has depreciated significantly and today the dollar is selling in excess of Ghc12 the president did not see the need to talk about this. Mr speaker my recommendation to this house is that the next time we are bringing a President to come and address us on the state of the nation let us tell him the things he should talk about so we help him not to deviate”
He discredited assertion by the NPP that the economy was doing well before COVID-19 pandemic due to prudent policies of the NPP government.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko said those successes in the economy were fruits of policies initiated by John Mahama led government before leaving office ,that, the real fruits of NPP economic policies are what is being felt now with severe hardship and galloping inflation.
“Our friends and indeed the President have been talking about the state of the economy in 2017,2018,2019. All the successes they talked about in 2017,2018,2019 were as a results of the economic policies that were implemented prior to that period and those were economic policies of president John Dramani Mahama.Today, we are feeling the impact of economic policies that were implemented in this country in 2018,2019 ,2020 so we are now feeling the impact of economic policies of Nana Addo and Bawumia”.
