Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency who is also the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi has stated that the period where flagbearership slot was reserved for only Akans in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is over .
He said members of the NPP are not only Akans that all other tribes in the country are strong members of the party therefore it is time for such persons from other tribes and religious groups to also get opportunity to lead the party.
Michael Okyere Baafi therefore stated that, Vice President Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia becoming flagbearer and subsequently President of Ghana will break this tribal monopoly in the NPP to pave way for all other tribesmen and women to have a leadership future in the NPP.
Baafi urged Christians to disregard propaganda that a Muslim cannot become President in Ghana which is Christian dominated country citing example of Nigeria, Senegal among others which are Muslim dominated countries but had christians as Presidents.
He said Dr.Bawumia as Muslim will bring standard to other members of other religions either than Christianity who want to lead the country.
“Christians must listen.For the first time we are going to have a Muslim as President to serve as standard to every Muslim who dreams to be President.Dr.Bawumia will be the first Muslim to bring that standard because most Muslims don’t enter Churches to fellowship but we have a Muslim (Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia) who attends all-night services ,a Muslim who go to convention, a Muslim who attend treaty ,a Muslim who worship with Christians such a Muslim will become standard”.
He added “so henceforth,every Muslim who wants to be president will follow the standard.He must be a Muslim who can enter into churches ,he should be a Muslim who can attend retreats, that is the paradigm shift brought to Ghana by Dr.Bawumia. He is setting a standard for everybody who is a Muslim who wants to become a president ,for the first time he has set the standard for all of us.so don’t let anyone deceived you. Dr.Bawumia is well experienced, he has the will-power ,he has the expertise ,he has knowledge and wisdom to move Ghana forward”
Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi said this when speaking at the official launch of “Women Delegates For Bawumia” in the Eastern region under the theme The strength of a woman, the force behind Bawumia”
The launch brought together female delegates from all 33 Constituencies in Eastern region who declared their support for Dr. Bawumia as the next Flag-bearer for the NPP ahead of the party’s presidential election in next few months.
The National Coordinator of “Women Delegates For Bawumia” Maame Esi Davenport outlined that the group will embarked on massive campaign to secure 80% of all female delegates votes for Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia .
She believes that the vice President Dr. Bawumia is the right choice of candidate to be honoured the Flag-bearer position to lead the party since his track record is a manifestation that he has women and children at heart.
According to Maame Esi ,Dr.Bawumia has demonstrated that he is competent leader capable of moving the country forward.
Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North ,Sheila Bartels declared support for Dr.Bawumia stating that he is the only competent leader who can lead the party break the 8 in 2024 Presiditial elections.
She urged the group to spread the good qualities of Dr.Bawumia to other delegates in the party for a massive endorsement of his flagbearership.
