The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, responsible for Lands and Forestry, and Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio has cautioned contractors rebuilding the Appiatse township not to compromise on quality of materials used in the reconstruction project.
The Deputy Minister maintained that in as much as the team is trying to meet set targets and deadlines, “if the work must be done, then it must be done well, so do not rush through it, take your time and use quality materials to finish up the work”.
Hon. Owusu-Bio gave this caution when he, together with some members of the reconstruction Implementation team, paid a working visit to Appiatse on Saturday, 27th May, 2023 to among others inspect the progress of work on site.
Upon inspection of all 6 lots on site, Hon. Owusu-Bio tasked AESL, the project consultants on the project to as a matter of urgency, ensure that external works on the buildings commences immediately, adding that they beef up supervision techniques even if it means employing one more supervisor to constantly be on site with the labourers.
He also charged the Urban Roads team on site to ensure the drainage system being constructed along side the main building works is done properly to avoid floods during and after the entire construction.
The Deputy Minister was however glad that on the whole, work is progressing steadily with some more buildings roofed but still hoped that even more will he completed soon.
Mr. Charles Blankson-Hermans, a member of the ARIT Committee and Ghana Institute of Architects also added his voice, tasking contractors to neaten up their works and tidy up the site as they build, while ensuring that the finishing is executed efficiently so as to enhance the overall outlook of work.
In his update to the Deputy Minister on the progress of work, Mr. Walter Semordzie, the Site Manager with the Project Consultants, AESL, who also took the Deputy Minister on the inspection tour, assured him that all instructions will be taken into immediate consideration and implemented as soon as practicable.
