Akua Donkor, the founder, and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s successor once his term ends.
She referred to the typical practice of an assistant replacing their employer and advised that the NPP flagbearership competition follow the same logic.
She affirmed her conviction that Dr. Bawumia had the strength and resolve required to lead the nation and carry out the development program established by President Akufo-Addo.
President Akufo-Addo was also complimented by Madam Donkor for his leadership, and she asked him to back Dr. Bawumia’s bid for the NPP flagbearership.
“The construction of the Nsawam-Offankor highway is something I feel so much happy about since successive governments have failed in constructing it. He has also built a new edifice for the Electoral Commission and built a court complex as well,” she chronicled some of President Akufo-Addo’s achievements.
Her remarks have stirred debate among political analysts and regular people, with some supporting her position and others advocating for a free and fair election to choose the party’s standard-bearer.
An influential member of the NPP and former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia has been vice president since 2017.
