An illegal Miner has committed suicide after he suffered a big sore which was not healing despite several treatments.
The sore on the 40 year old deceased, Ben Akotsa, has been linked to the harmful chemicals used for his illegal mining activities.
The incident happened March 24, 2020, at Akyem Agyapomaa a community near Akyem Asafo in Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that One Stephen Akotsa of Agyapomaa near Akim Asafo accompanied by Samuel Nartey, a unit committee member of Agyapomaa electoral area reported at the Akyem Asafo Police station that on the same day at about 11:00 am, he visited his sick brother, Ben Akotsa (now deceased) but upon arrival detected that he had hanged himself to death.
Police proceeded to the community and entered the single bedroom within a compound house where the incident happened.
According to the local Police at Akyem Asafo, the deceased was dressed in a black pullover and a pink shorts hanging with a blue nylon rope tied against one of the woods of the ceiling to the neck of the deceased with a chair positioned close to his legs
Preliminary investigation by the local Police has revealed that the deceased was a driver in Accra but moved to the family house at Agyapomaa about two years ago where he engaged in illegal mining but abouf3 a month ago, he returned from work at a galamsey site at Kyebi and complained of pains in the legs. Subsequently, he developed a big sore on the left leg and was undergoing treatment at the Maryland clinic at Akyem Asafo.
His body has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital Morgue.
