FALLOUT FROM THE ASSIN NORTH BY-ELECTION.
A bit of politics today. Read thoroughly.
I have followed and participated in political activities since 1969 when Dr Busia visited my hometown, Agogo Asante Akyem, My late father, Nana Adu Asabere Kyei Mensah, a founding member of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, carried me on his shoulders to attend a rally.
In 1979, I filed posters for the PFP led by Victor Owusu in Kumasi. I supplied NDC fuel ⛽️ on credit in 1992 and also sponsored the late Baah Wiredu, Minister of Finance in the Kufuor administration with fuel during his bid to run as a parliamentary candidate for the Asante Akyem North Constituency in 1992. I have been a coordinator at the Korle Klottey Constituency from 2009 to 2012 on the ticket of the NPP and a member of the Creative Arts for Change from 2007 till date! I love politics devoid of insults.
In the book of Ecclesiastes 9 vrs 11 in the bible, it is explicitly stated that “under the sun, the race is not to the swift, nor battle to the strong, nor bread to the men of skill, but time and chance happen to them all”. In life, overtaken is allowed.
Any political party in Ghana 🇬🇭 wanting to win 🏆 the 2024 general elections, should study the dynamics that was brought on the 2020 elections. The voters, can decipher now!
With the kind of flagship programs the NPP had introduced from 2017 to 2020 especially the Free SHS policy, it didn’t necessarily reflect on the outcome of the elections in 2020 in favor of them. With the parliamentary seats being shared equally by both parties with one independent candidate, who stood as a beacon of hope for who to claim the majority in Parliament, should be a source of worry especially to the ruling party, the NPP!
The voter of today, is well versed in some of the happenings in the country. In the remotest part of the country, the voter has access to a frequency modulation (FM) station where they follow the news. They have become sophisticated and any party who plays with their emotions, would laugh at the wrong side of their mouth.
In the just ended Assin North by-election, the NDC designed their campaign uniquely devoid of “fanfare” and made sure that, most voters who had voted for them in the 2020 elections, were reached out for. No wonder, they won the day. Forget about other tangentials of goods sharing. Congratulations NDC.
The NPP did their best however, their campaign strategy, over concentrated on Gyakye Quayson’s court case, heaped invectives, cast insinuations and aspersions on his Quayson’s personal life instead of selling their candidate and being sober on their appeal to voters within the enclave to vote for Charles Opoku. The NDC also run down the NPP candidate and made sure that, they hit on some deficiencies of the current government including some propagandist approach. When you fight your opponent, you hit hard where it pains.
Another faux pas of the NPP in their campaign was, the over exhibition of their Presidential Aspirants posters all over Assin North instead of Charles Opoku who had a short time to be sold to the electorate. That competition for attention, was needless.
You don’t dance to your own tune and roast your own tongue. The NDC can make merry, jubilate over this victory however, they should not think this winning is a forgone conclusion for them in 2024. More work to do for both parties in 2024.
I hope in 2024, no party should blame the Electoral Commission/Commissioner when they lose because, i have heard both NPP and NDC commending the EC. May Ghana 🇬🇭 prosper and the best prepared party win in 2024. We need PEACE!
Good beads don’t rattle
