On Tuesday 27th June 2023, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Lariba Zuweira Abudu, took part in a community durbar at Kperiga (Walewale in the North East Region), as part of the ‘Strengthening Capacity of Women Religious in Early Childhood Development’ (SCORE-ECD) Project.
The SCORE project is a mother and child health initiative with the goal of guaranteeing that by 2024, children ages 0 to 3 live in a caring environment.
The durbar, which was organized by the Catholic Relief Services – CRS Ghana, sought to encourage positive behaviors in the nurturing care framework in the ten (10) implementing project districts.
Speaking at the durbar, the Minister said early Childhood is a period of rapid and critical development of a child.
“Quality nurturing care, comprising of adequate nutrition, good health, responsive care giving, security, and safety during this period is vital for children’s physical, cognitive, linguistic, and socio-emotional development” She stressed.
She said the initiative by CRS goes to support Government’s efforts to foster social protection and create an environment where all children can grow and thrive.
“It will complement the Government of Ghana’s policies to provide a safety net for citizens, such as the Free maternal healthcare to enable continued access to health care by pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as the LEAP and School Feeding Programmes, both under the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection”.
Hon. Lariba Abudu assured CRS and the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious Ghana and other partners of the Ministry’s continued dedication to championing Early Childhood Development across the length and breadth of Ghana.
