A 23 year old Labourer, Francis Nyarko has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment in hard Labour for Stealing, escaping from lawful custody and causing unlawful damage by the Asamankese Circuit Court Presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams.
Francis Nyarko, the accused was charged for stealing a royal motorbike with registration number M-22-AS-9051 worth ¢6,192, property of one Emmanuel Amuzu, contrary to section 124(1) of Act 29/60) and he pleaded guilty and convicted on his own plea.
Also on 23/12/2022, the accused dishonestly appropriated one royal motorbike with registration number M-20-GW-7007 worth ¢8,000.00, a property of one Gideon Yankson from Ashoman Estate in Accra and sold it at ¢2,000.00 and gave appointment letter to the buyer who is illiterate to deceive him as documents for the motorbike.
The third charge was causing damage to padlock of Mepom Police lawful custody and escaped but he was chased by the Police and arrested on the same day.
Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Owusu said the Complainant in this case is Motorcycle rider at Kade whilst the accused is a Labourer in the same Town, and both are friends.
The prosecutor said on 28/06/2023, the accused met the complainant at Anwiam near Kade and seek for the release of his Motorbike to travel to Nkwantanan.
According to prosecution statement,the accused made U-Turn to send the Motorbike to Accra and sale it but unfortunately for him,the motorbike had fault at Mepom where he has done similar thing there so he was hiding his face with helmet but was spotted by one Ernest Ganyo.
The witness reported the accused to the Police at Mepom and upon interrogation, the police got the owner of the motorbike contact and he also lodged complaint against the accused person.
After investigation,the accused was charged with the Offence and sent to court for prosecution.
