Firefighters from the Mpraeso Fire Station in the Eastern region on Saturday averted what could have become devastating fuel tanker explosion fire disaster on Accra -Kumasi Highway.
This was after an IVECO fuel tanker truck with registration number SNT 8040-15 carrying 54,000 litres of fuel from Accra towards Kumasi was involved in serious accident.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the Mpraeso fire station received a distress call at 11:45am hours from the Regional Control Room reporting an accident involving an IVECO fuel tanker with registration.
The fire fighters arrived at the scene around 12:52pm.
They observed that the IVECO fuel tanker had veered off the highway into the bush with the head/cabin separated from the trailer while the fuel was also leaking from the tanker.
The environment became highly inflammable awaiting little spark of fire to ignite and explode.
The crew safeguarded the fuel tanker from any possible source of ignition
and supervised the safe transfer of the fuel into another tanker.
The intervention by the firefighters saved a lives and properties near by.
