Contractor asphalting Koforidua town roads has abandoned site over unfair criticism.
Months ago, residents of Koforidua led by a group calling itself Koforidua Development Advocates threatened to embark on demonstration over deplorable state of the roads in the regional capital .
The Eastern Region Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong and the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Hon Michael Okyere Baafi who said the roads had been awarded to contract already, made a case for the contractor to mobilize quickly to site in response to the public outcry.
The Contractor has since been working on the town roads enhancing smooth drive in the central business part of the Regional capital.
However, the contractor has been criticized for poor work done so far which will make the entire asphalting shortlived.
Critics say the old deteriorated asphalt overlay needed to be removed and filled with gravels particularly waterlogged areas for it to be compacted before the new asphalt applied but the contractor is just applying the asphalt overlay.
According to Hon Okyere Baafi MP for New Juaben South, these unfair criticisms against the contractor on alleged poor quality of workdone so far on Koforidua town roads orchestrated by his political opponent Evans Appiah ,an Independent parliamentary hopeful and others has angered the contractor to abandoned the road fearing he might not be paid.
He said ,Evans Appiah made a video and sent to some engineers in Accra in charge of road construction who questioned the contractor about the allegations.
The MP said on Afeema FM that, this misconduct is shameful act from nonentities who are kicking against development of Koforidua.
The MP however stated that, they are begging the contractor to return to site to continue the road project.
