Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso Boakye joined President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to perform a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Pokuase Housing project, the first initiative under government’s new National Affordable Housing Programme (NAHP).
Through a strategic partnership with the private sector, the Pokuase project aims at providing 8,000 housing units to cater to the housing needs of Ghanaians, especially low-to-medium income earners.
By leveraging the expertise and efficiency of the private sector, the project significantly reduces the financial burden on the government while ensuring high-quality and cost-effective housing solutions for the good people of Ghana.
In this collaborative effort, the private sector will be responsible for the construction of all 8,000 housing units, relieving the taxpayers of additional financial strain. The government’s role will focus on providing land and public infrastructure, including roads, water, electricity, drainage systems, sewage, schools, football pitches, and other commercial centers, amongst other, that are essential for human habitation. These facilities will not only benefit the residents of the housing units but also enhance the well-being of the entire community.
In his presentation at the ceremony, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to continuing all ongoing housing projects, including those initiated under President Kufuor and the Saglemi project which started during the previous NDC administration. Already, government, under President Akufo-Addo has taken steps to complete the Borteyman and Asokore Mampong projects, and is actively working to finalize the Saglemi project, all in the interest of protecting the public purse.
