Assembly member for Aburi West Electoral Area in Akuapem South district in Eastern region Hon.Daniel Asiamah has expressed worry over poor performance of students in Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the district.
According to the Akuapem South District Education Directorate,nearly 47% of candidates who wrote the BECE in 2022 failed.
As a result the Assembly member for Aburi West Electoral Area Hon.Daniel Asiamah has for sometime now been organizing free extra classes for this year’s BECE candidates in his electoral .
Additionally, he has also organized career guidance and leadership seminar dubbed “the mindset” which provided platform for successful and prominent individuals in the country to speak to the students including those from Senior High Schools.
The Assembly member donated mathematical sets to the candidates at the event and charged them to work harder and pass their exams to further their education.
About one thousand candidates from both public and private basic schools in Akuapem South district in Eastern region are expected to write this year’s BECE which begins August 7 to August 11,2023 .
The candidates are optimistic of improving the performance this year but some are skeptical about mathematics subject.
Kwaku Sintim-Misa , Ghanaian actor ,Director and satirist better known in showbiz industry as KSM called for revision of the methodology used by Ghanaian teachers for the teaching of mathematics as it has become a national problem.
He commended the Assembly member for the event stating that it will help motivate the students to aim higher and have self confidence of reaching their goals.
Various speakers at the event including Amoako Asante Kakra ,an information Management System specialist, Francisca Amoah a.k.a Mame Koma Addo ,an Assistant Director and TV host , Rodger Henaku Larbi, Human Resource Manager,GES office Akuapem South, all advised the students to be disciplined and have positive mindset that everything is possible only when there is determination.
