Vice President Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia called for a moral and humane campaign in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before its presidential primaries and referred to the race as a “family contest.”
He said that, according to UP tradition, everyone of the nine candidates comes from the same ancestral roots.
As a result, he advised his supporters to refrain from disparaging other candidates for the party’s leadership in the next general election, both directly and indirectly.
Dr. Bawumia, who is widely expected to win the position of flagbearer, stated that everyone must conduct a moral campaign in order to accomplish the mission that awaits the party in 2024.
“As a family, all factions must recognize that a united front is necessary to confront the NDC,” Dr. Bawumia stated in Kumasi during an interaction with NPP delegates.
“I have instructed all my supporters and spokespersons that we must conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any form of insults.”
Dr. Bawumia pointed out that after the internal competition, the contenders would have to band together to compete against the NDC, thus staying unified was necessary.
On November 4, the NPP will choose its standard bearer for the 2024 elections.
However, the party will host a super delegates’ meeting in August to reduce the number from 10 to 5 before the November 4 election.
