The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that District Level Assembly Elections (DLE) will take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission disclosed that the elections will be conducted in all the 6,272 electoral areas in all districts except Nkoranza North and South in the Bono region.
According to Jean Mensa, elections will not be held in both districts until 2025.
Addressing journalists during a briefing in Accra dubbed, ‘Let the Citizen Know’ the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa said the EC will embark on voter registration in all 268 district offices of the Commission for new Voters and the exercise will be held from September 12 to October 2.
Section 6 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) (as amended by Act 940) provides that District Level Elections shall be held every four (4) years and the interval between the DLE and the Parliamentary elections shall be held at least six (6) months apart.
The EC would open nomination for interested persons to file their nomination, explaining that, to minimise the financial burden on prospective candidates, the Commission would make available limited hard copies of the nomination forms at its various district offices for pick up and filing.
