Members of the Public Accounts Committee led by the Chairman Hon. James Klutse-Avedzi, Vice-Chairman Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills and the Ranking Member Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum are holding Public Hearing in Sunyani to consider the 2021 Reports of the Auditor-General.
The Reports include the Auditor-General’s Report on the Management and Utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and other statutory funds for the year ended 31st Dec 2021, Reports of the Auditor-General on the Accounts of District Assemblies for the Financial Year ended 31st December 2021 and Reports of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of Ghana – Pre-tertiary education institutions for the Year ended 31st December 2021.
Part of the mandate of the Committee is to ensure that recommendations made by the Auditor-General are carried out by the Institutions cited in the Reports and subsequently report to Parliament to make a decision on issues the Committee finds as impediments to the work of the Districts, Municipals, Universities and the Senior High Schools.
The Committee invited Institutions from the Ashanti Region that have been cited in the 2021 Reports at its sitting on Thursday.
Some of them were Ahafo Ano South West, Afigya Kwabre South, Amansie West, Bekwai Municipal, Bosome Freho, Kumasi Metro, Kwadaso Municipal, Asokore Mampong and Atwima Nwabiagya North.
The Senior High Schools were Achinakrom SHS, Adanwomase SHS, Adventist Girls SHS, Asare Bediako SHS, Ghana Muslim Mission SHS, Gyaana PENSA SHTS, Kumasi Girls SHS, St. Joseph SHTS, Mankranso SHT, Antoa SHS among others.
Most of the irregularities cited against these institutions were misappropriation of funds, Payments made outside GIFMIS, Unearned Salaries, Unpaid Rents, Unsupported documents, Projects not in use and Uncompleted Projects.
The Committee is expected to continue its Public Hearing today, Thursday 7th September, 2023.
