The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe has said they are committed to fostering gender diversity in the country.
To the officer, the gender gap in ICT is wide.
Adwoa Wiafe said that MTN’s aim is to bridge the gender gap and create an environment where every girl can envision herself as a leader in the technological world.
Adwoa Wiafe stated that leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress is their ambition.
Speaking at the award ceremony for Girls-In-ICT program organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation in the Eastern regional capital, Adwoa Wiafe said that MTN is creating an inclusive environment where everyone will have access to opportunities that lead to success and innovation.
She urged the young girls to take the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow.
‘‘Let your curiosity and passion drive you to explore the vast possibilities that ICT offers. Believe in your capabilities, seek knowledge, and never shy away from challenges. The world of technology is boundless, and your voice, ideas, passion, and skills matter in shaping its future,’’ said Adwoa Wiafe.
She acknowledged the incredible potential in the beneficiaries adding that they intend to inspire, educate, and empower young women in technology.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) has presented hundred (100) laptops with cash prizes to Girls In ICT program in the Eastern region.
The move by the Ministry is to break barriers in science technology and improve ICT knowledge among young ladies at the various schools in the country.
Hundred laptops were also given to beneficiaries who emerged victorious in the competition organized to access their level of understanding.
Out of the hundred students, the top three beneficiaries in the competition were awarded a plaque each, laptop each and a cash prize ranging from Ghc3,000, Ghc2,500 and Ghc2,000 for positions of first, second and third respectively.

The Minister indicated that the Girls-In-ICT initiative has enabled the students to develop games, animations, codes, scribes and others.
Speaking at the award ceremony for the Girls-In-ICT at Koforidua Cultural Centre, Hon Ursula Owusu explained that the move by the ministry was to institutionalize and ensure the sustainability of the initiative.
She announced that plans were far advanced to set up a trust fund for the girls in Information and Communication Technology program (Girls-In-ICT).
Hon Ursula Owusu said that the ministry would further implement the Girls-In-ICT in three more regions with a need to strengthen the coverage of more students across the country.
Hon Ursula Owusu pointed out that the Ministry has invited the Ministry of Education, MTN, Vodafone among other agencies to be anchor members of the girls in ICT trusts fund.
“The future is digital and the future is women and our girls are an integral part of the future so Girls-In-ICT program must continue”, she said.
Chairperson of the occasion, Omanhene of New Juaben, Nana Kwaku Boateng lll expressed gratitude for the moves by the Ministry for training and boosting the morale of Girls in learning ICT.
Nana Kwaku Boateng said it was aimed at inspiring young ladies in ICT and unlocking their interest in ICT in the early age and provide them with necessary resources to improve their well-being and career in education.
The special guest of honor at the climax ceremony, Rev. Dr Joyce Aryee, encouraged the beneficiaries of the program and commended the minister for establishing such a legacy that would continue to empower more girls and young women for generations to come.
