The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif signed a ground-breaking memorandum of understanding on Wednesday 1st November, 2023 with the National Service scheme with the purpose of deploying service personnel to key sports organizations to advance Ghana’s sports sector.
At a short ceremony, the Minister underscored the need to tap into the professional and talent of the service personnel who will be dedicated to contribute their skills and expertise in areas such as marketing, physiotherapy, psychology, finances, social media, content creation among others.
According to him, the aim is to synergize academic knowledge with practical experience to enhance the positioning, promotion, and branding of various clubs and federations, enabling them to compete on a global scale.
He called on all parties involved in the collaboration to seize the opportunities it presents and derive maximum benefit from the initiative to help grow their respective organizations and charged all beneficiary organizations to play their roles diligently and remain committed to the successful implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding.
“Together, we can drive youth and sports development in Ghana to unprecedented heights”, he noted.
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Service Scheme, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi noted that the collaboration it’s the first of its kind and intimated that the various organizations and sports federations need modern minds to help with the administration and branding of their institutions.
He added that marketing is a critical aspect of sporting clubs and believe the service personnel would be able to design marketing strategies to get great interest and attention for the local leagues in Ghana and would help to strengthen the sponsorship drive for the league.
The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi indicated that his outfit only received a limited number of service personnel but due to the collaboration with the National Service Scheme, he was sure to receive the required number of personnel to help in running of the day to day administration of the Authority.
He expressed his unwavering support for the initiative and noted that he would ensure its implementation.
Present at the ceremony to witness the signing were the Director of finance and administration of the Ministry, Mr. Eric Mensah-Bonsu, the legal officer for the Ministry, Mrs. Juliana Ado-yobo, the Executive Chairman of the LOC-13th African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu – Asare, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, the President of GHALCA. Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo.
Others were the Chief Accountant of the National Sports College, Mr. Joseph Appiah, the administrative manager of GHALCA, S. Oduro Nyarko, and other officials.
