Former Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila has thrown his weight behind coach Chris Hughton despite the teams’ unimpressive performance in recent times.
The Irish-Ghanaian trainer has come under intense pressure following the Black Stars unimpressive performance during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium in the opening World Cup qualification game before succumbing to a narrow defeat to Comoros at the Moroni Stadium.
“Chris Hughton must stay” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM amid calls for the sacking of the former Brighton manager.
He has therefore called on Ghanaians to exercise patience with the national team.
“They will come good as time goes on, so we should exercise patience for the boys. We should all pray and support the team no matter what is the situation” he said.
Ghana will now shift their attention to the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be staged in Ivory Coast between January and February 2024.
