In a fervent plea to uphold the principles of democracy, the Concerned Residents of the New Juaben South Municipality (CRNJSM) have officially lodged a petition, urging the Electoral Commission to disqualify Emmanuel Hohede, identified as the second candidate on the Notice of Poll for the upcoming 2023 District Level Election in Two -Streams Electoral Area.
Motivated by a collective resolve to prevent individuals deemed unfit for public office from infiltrating District Assemblies, CRNJSM bases its petition on the grounds of the Local Governance Act, 2016 Act (936), Section 7 subsection (3) (c).
The heart of the matter lies in the alleged unethical conduct attributed to Emmanuel Hohede.
Emmanuel Hohede, was dismissed as staff member of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) after being indicted with others in the misappropriation of Gh¢620,457.32 in the year 2020.
The audited financial report released by the University’s Governing Council on August 6, 2020, exposed financial irregularities, with Hohede at the forefront of diverting school fees into private accounts.
Further intensifying the plea, the petition outlines clear violations of PART IV of the District Assembly Elections Form of Nomination Paper. Paragraphs 8 (i), 9, 13, and 14 are spotlighted, alleging false declarations by Hohede in his nomination form submitted to the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The petition contends that such actions jeopardize the integrity of the electoral process.
CRNJSM led by John Willington,Convenor, acknowledges the Commission’s commitment to electoral integrity and emphasizes that disqualifying Emmanuel Hohede from the 2023 District Level Election would be a pivotal step towards maintaining this integrity.
