Matthew Opoku Prempeh, renowned as NAPO, has officially submitted his nomination form to contest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries whilst keeping his eyes on potential nomination as running mate to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Vice President elected Flagbearer of the party.
The seasoned medical doctor and current Minister of Energy is vying for a third term as the Member of Parliament for the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
The former Minister of Education, widely known for his pivotal role in shaping the country’s educational landscape, took to social media to share the news.
In a post made on Wednesday, he highlighted his adherence to the party’s constitution and stated, “I filed my nomination at the NPP Manhyia South Constituency office, to contest in the party’s upcoming primaries for constituencies with sitting MPs.”
Opoku Prempeh expressed gratitude to the NPP constituency members for their unwavering support since his political debut in 2008. Acknowledging collective achievements, he announced his decision to seek re-election, underlining his commitment to service, sacrifice, and selflessness in the realm of politics.
In a noteworthy development, the politician hinted at broader aspirations by stating, “It is also the first step towards my 5th term bid as Member of Parliament for Manhyia South on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.” This comes amidst speculation that he is actively lobbying for the position of running mate.
Addressing party members, he affirmed his dedication to democratic principles within the party’s internal processes. Opoku Prempeh expressed confidence in the constituency’s continued support, aiming to enhance the NPP’s standing in collaboration with the party’s Flagbearer, His Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“I commit fully to the democratic tenets of our party in this internal exercise, and I have no doubt that Manhyia South, my beloved constituency, will once again rise to the occasion to deepen the attractiveness of the NPP,” he declared optimistically.
He concluded with slogan “By the grace of God! Insha Allah! the NPP will break the 8!”
Opoku Prempeh signals his intent for the upcoming political endeavors, adding an intriguing layer to the evolving political landscape in Ghana with hope of rising to the topmost part of his political career as running mate and Vice President in near future.
