The Member of Parliament for Lower West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Honourable Charles Acheampong has filled his nomination forms to seek for second term in office.
He was accompanied by some delegates and card bearing members of the party together with former First Vice chairman and former Secretary and National Disaster Management Organisation Director, Mr. Joseph Ameyaw and Kwasi Addo Annor.
Receiving the nomination forms, Mr. Francis Ohene Boafo, Chairman of the election Committee urged the incumbent MP and his supporters to conduct a clean campaign ahead of the January 27 Parliamentary Primaries.
As at 23rd December 2024, five people have picked nomination forms to compete with the incumbent MP. Among the Aspirants are, Grace Akosua Amoabeng, a daughter of former MP, Kojo Odame Antwi. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Dr. Adamu Abdulai and Deputy Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited (Operations) Hon. Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye.
After defeating four Candidates with just two difference in June 2020 Primaries, Honourable Charles Acheampong retained the seat for NPP in Lower West Akyem Constituency in 2020 General Election with 27, 527, to beat his main contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Adu-Sei, who garnered 19,744 votes.
Acheampong’s win affirms the dominance of the NPP in the constituency since 2000.
In the Presidential poll, President Akufo-Addo of the NPP polled 28,854, while John Dramani Mahama of the NDC polled 17,699 votes from the total valid votes cast of 47,164.
