Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has stated emphatically that Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is the only viable contender to run alongside NPP flagbearer H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as running mate.
Kennedy Agyapong was adamant that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, best known as “NAPO” and also serving as the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has what it takes to defeat John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress, in his coalition with Dr. Bawumia.
He was hopeful that the New Patriotic Party would “break the 8” with the support of the Bawumia/NAPO ticket.
Prior to the party’s January 27 primaries to choose its parliamentary candidates, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong made the case to delegates at the Bantama constituency in the Ashanti Region that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has become well-liked by the party’s membership over the years.
“If you go to NAPO’s office, you will be marveled at the way he relates with party people. He takes care of party people. If we had 5 of his kind in the party, the NPP would have been better off and far ahead of the NDC. Given the current circumstances where many of our members are despondent, selecting NAPO will be the only way to bring back the needed energy for victory in the 2024 elections”, he said.
According to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the flagbearer’s choice of the Energy Minister as his running mate is the only way he will support the NPP in the 2024 elections.
“The only way I will campaign for the NPP is for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to be named as the Running Mate…That will be the most credible ticket to beat John Mahama”, he insisted.
