The West Akyem Municipal Health Directorate in Collaboration with the Asamankese Government Hospital have launched a year long Campaign to create awareness on Cervical Cancer.
The Campaign is on the theme “Learn, Prevent and Screen”.
Cervical cancer is a growth of cells that starts in the cervix and the cervix is the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina.
Speaking at the launch, Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Seth Oduro Boadu commended the Health Directorate for the campaign and pledged the Assembly’s Support.
He lauded the health worker for their dedication and accepting posting to the Municipality.
A Gynecologist at the Asamankese Government Hospital, Dr. Isaac Korang said the campaign has already started in Senior High Schools and a Radio Station in the Municipality (Nkunim FM) and said it will continue to reach all females in the area.
Mr. Festus Nartey, a Public Health Nurse said Receiving regular gynecological exams, getting Pap tests and practicing safe sex are the most important steps that one can take toward the prevention of cervical cancer.
He said Screening tests can help detect cervical cancer and precancerous cells that may one day develop into cervical cancer.
