The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has taken a swipe at head coach of the Black Stars, Charles Kwabla Akonnor over his decision to travel abroad for monitoring.
Akonnor, who replaced James Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach at the expiration of his contract travelled abroad to scout players for the national prior to Ghana’s African Cup of Nations Qualifiers clash with Sudan.
The game which was scheduled to take place on March 27, 2020, at the Cape Coast Stadium was suspended due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Obiri Boahen in an interview with Koforidua based Bryt FM said, “I think it is not important for Akonnor to travel before he can scout or monitor players for the team. What is the purpose?
Have you ever seen a foreign national team coach travelling outside his country with the mentality of scouting players? He quizzed.
“In this era, we don’t do things like that. Its waste of money to travel for scouting, I think we are doing things like Abronye Under16 and even Abronye U16 coach will never do this” he added.
