Former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen has persisted in his current assessment of Ghana’s economic situation, despite the government’s growing insistence that there has been a significant recovery.
He criticized Ken Ofori-Atta, the finance minister, in earlier remarks, claiming that he lacked the authority to claim credit for little economic gains.
Late last week, Alan gave a speech at a National Economic Summit.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who oversaw the government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) for roughly six years in a row, has been the target of his most recent criticism.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is tired. There is nothing new he can do and that is a fact,” Alan in quoted to have said in a yet-to-be-aired interview on Accra-based TV3.
Alan has previously attacked the administration for the present economic crisis, which has forced it to request a US$3 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), of which just US$1.2 million has been released as of January 2024.
Alan’s remarks regarding Ofori-Atta
Last Friday at the National Economic Summit, Alan Kyerematen reminded attendees that the Finance Minister shouldn’t be claiming all the credit for the economy’s progress.
“The Minister of Finance has no right to be taking credit for the marginal improvements that we are seeing in the economy. Because it is clear that he was against Ghana going to the IMF.”
“I can say with pride that I was one of the few senior leaders in government that made a decision that we had gotten to a point where we had no choice. That’s what leadership is about,” the former Cabinet Minister touted.
