Assembly members have been urged to provide alternative ideas to the various MMDAs in helping them to develop.
They have, also, been advised to desist from partisan politics as far as their mandate in local governance is concerned.
National Security minister, Albert Kan Dapaah made these comments at the inauguration of the 3rd Assembly of the New Juaben North municipality.
The Minister called for a total change of mindset about the work of Assembly members because they are great pivot in the development of the various MMDAs across the country.
Mr. Kan Dapaah however assured the various MMDAs of government’s continuous support to ensuring local governance is well decentralized for all to participate.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben North, Nana Adjei Boateng challenged the newly elected Assembly members and unit committee members to be proactive to the plight of their electoral area members despite the challenges that comes with it.
He also reacted to former President Mahama’s pledge to remunerate Assembly members when elected into power, saying such a decision is not feasible considering the number of Assembly members across the country.
Meanwhile, Assembly members failed to elect a Presiding Member as expected and has therefore been scheduled as stipulated in the constitution.
According to Intel picked by the reporter, the development is due to brouhaha surrounding the appointment of Government Appointees.
