Amidst recent upheavals within the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the Eastern Regional Executive Committee (REC) has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the decisions taken by the National Executive Council (NEC) during a pivotal meeting held in Kumasi in December 2023.
The REC’s stance underscores its commitment to upholding party unity and discipline in the face of internal challenges.
Following the resignation of national executives, including the Chairperson and Leader Nana Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankuma, the NEC took decisive action, leading to the formation of an interim committee tasked with overseeing the party’s affairs until new substantive national executives are elected.
Addressing the media in Koforidua, Regional Secretary Comrade Pierson Oppong emphasized the REC’s endorsement of the NEC’s decisions, stating, “We are convinced by the explanations provided by members of the interim council during the Eastern Regional Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday, February 24, 2024.”
The REC underscored its respect for the authority of the NEC and its decision-making process, issuing a stern warning against any member who dares to defy the directives set forth by the council.
Furthermore, the REC called upon all officers who were removed from their positions at the NEC to graciously accept the decision, thereby facilitating the seamless implementation of activities by the interim council at various levels of the party.
Eastern Regional Chairman of CPP, Comrade Semefa Mawutor, expressed optimism about the party’s future trajectory, dismissing concerns regarding its impact on party unity.
He emphasized the CPP’s resilience in overcoming challenges and forging ahead with its agenda.
In a bid to bolster its ranks and strengthen grassroots mobilization, the Eastern Regional Executives of CPP have launched “Operation 2424,” aimed at encouraging members to recruit a minimum of 24 new members each. Comrade Mawutor emphasized the importance of expanding the party’s membership base to enhance its influence and relevance.
