Pedestrians and Residents at Nkawkaw Nankyea in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region is bemoaning the closure of their short cut linkage across the main highway by the Chairman of the Municipal Security Council who double as the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo.
It will be recaled that a tragedy strucked the Ampeah Memorial School in Nkawkaw as a fatal motor accident claimed the lives of three male pupils and a female teacher late Thursday afternoon on the Nkawkaw section of the Kumasi-Accra road.
The accident involved a Nissan Patrol vehicle, reportedly the official vehicle of the District Chief Executive for Atwima Kwanwoma in the Ashanti region, Prince Karikari, which collided with a Hyundai minibus.
This has coursed the Municipal Security Council to take measures to curtail such occurrence by closing the short cut link from the Nankyea community to joining the main highway.
According to the security council, there is an over head to take to join their community root.
But the residents are furious at the decision taken by the Assembly.
Speaking to Oheneba Siaw on the sideline of the closure, an Opinion Leader Rev. Ignatious Asiedu Founder and Leader of (HOUR OF POWER MINISTRIES INT.) LOCAL COUNCIL OF CHRISTIANS CHURCHES NKAWKAW FINANCIAL SECRETARY said there is a pedestrian crossing to indicate a possible crossing but it’s been cleaned off so no driver could noticed such, he added that from their junction to the overhead is 15 kilometers which so far for them.
He therefore urged that the pedestrian crossing should be repainted or better still they can have a speed rump to limit the speed of drivers.
The residents also recounted how the closure is going to affect their daily activities in the community.
Meanwhile the Odikro of Nankyea, Nana kwasi Asante Bamfo told Angel TV FM’s Oheneba Siaw that it was on paper after demolishing his cocoa farm to construct a foot bridge to link the main road but no avail yet there was no compensation paid on the demolishing of his cocoa farm.
