The Minister, Hon Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has embarked on a working visit to inspect the progress of works of sea defense projects undertaken by the Ministry’s implementing agency, Ghana Hydrological Authority along Ghana’s coastal lines in the Central and Western Regions.
The visit took him to project sites in Anomabo, Cape Coast, Elmina and Komenda in the Central Region as well as Shama, Aboadze, Takoradi, Kwesiminstin, Dixcove and Axim in the Western Region.
It is imperative to note that the main objective of these projects is to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of people living in coastal communities from the devastating effect of sea erosions, which have been worsened by the effects of climate change on the rise in sea levels, inundation of coastal communities and other ecological factors.
Several of these coastal protection projects are dotted across the country’s coastal stretch.
Hon Oppong Nkrumah speaking to the media assured contractors that efforts are being made to release funds to ensure the projects are completed as scheduled.
He, however, charged contractors to ensure they execute the projects up to standard so as to serve the needed purpose and also to make sure it exceed it expected life span.
