Businessman Prince Kofi Amoaben has called on the business community and Ghanaians who are dissatisfied with the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to join forces in efforts to unseat the ruling party in the 2024 general elections.
Amoaben emphasized the need for financial support for former President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign, urging his peers to contribute to Mahama’s comeback.
The defunct UT bank boss accused the current government of exploiting the country to fund their campaigns.
“Don’t forget the fight is not easy. The people we want to overthrow have made plenty of money. We’ve read in the papers, we’ve seen their lifestyles, but they don’t mean well for the people,” Amoaben stated.
He called on the business community to mobilize resources and support leaders with vision and commitment. “What we are doing here today is most important. We need the logistics for leaders with vision and the dream to reach out to all the people. We need to empower these people financially through our networks and strong solidarity,” Amoaben added.
Amoaben expressed his confidence in Mahama’s leadership, praising his previous experience and suggesting that his return to power could help address the country’s economic challenges. “I think the incoming president who has experienced it before will make sure that we, the people, will enjoy quality time and will want to save our time,” he said.
Amoaben made these remarks during a fundraising dinner hosted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Eastern Regional Secretariat in Accra. The event raised GH₵5.4 million for Mahama’s campaign.
In his welcome address, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, stressed the importance of uniting efforts and mobilizing resources for the 2024 general elections. He called on attendees to contribute generously as an investment in the country’s future and reiterated the party’s principles of social justice, equality, and progress for all.
President John Mahama served as the special guest of honor at the event, where he was praised for his leadership, vision, and commitment to the betterment of Ghana.
