Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate for 2024, has revealed that the government has put procedures in place to allow Metro Mass Transit Company Limited to receive the first 200 electric vehicles this year.
According to him, the administration is determined to switch the nation’s public transportation fleet to electric vehicles.
Dr. Bawumia lamented that the cost of transportation is increasing due to increased gasoline prices.
“Electric vehicles mean that they are not going to be using fuel, we’re going the electricity to drive vehicles,’’ Dr Bawumia said during his one-day tour in the Eastern Region with the leadership of faith-based groups at Presbyterian Church Grace chapel in Akropong.
He confirmed that the government’s stance on electric vehicles will assist in bringing down the cost of transportation for Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia pledged that the government is dedicated to addressing the cost of living and improving the quality of life for its people.
To encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in Ghana, the Transport Ministry unveiled the country’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The National Electric Vehicle Policy is anticipated to set market signals and contribute to the transportation sector’s decarbonization in accordance with Ghana’s National Energy Transition Plan 2022–2070 and international climate change commitments.
