The Presiding Member for West Akim Municipal Assembly, Honourable David Kwashie Apetsi has called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to consider giving Vehicles to Assembly Members to perform their duties.
According to him,the Effectiveness and Efficiency of the Local Administration and Central Government begins from the Electoral Areas in the Country and Assembly Members are key players who need to be resource to perform their duties accordingly.
Speaking to the media at Asamankese after 2024 first General Assembly Meeting by the West Akyem Municipal Assembly, Honourable David Kwashie Apetsi commended the Government for introducing motorcycles for Assembly Members and noted that the Ministry can do better.
He said most of the Assembly Members in the Country did not used the motorcycles given to them because it is risky to drive it in Sunny period and raining season.
Honourable Kwashie Apetsi who have served for some years now as Government Appointee to the Assembly and currently elected as the Presiding Member said most people think that Assembly members are paid monthly so they always demand from them, calling on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to consider Special Financial Support for Assembly to Address petty issues in the Electoral Area.
On the issue of End of Service Benefit, the Presiding Member revealed that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has approved Gh¢2,000, Gh¢2,500 and Gh¢3,000 for Immediate Past Assembly Members in the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies but it is yet to be paid.
