The chief and people of Dzani in the Birim South district of the Eastern Region have expressed frustration over what they describe as deliberate neglect by the government.
The chief alleged that their District Chief Executive (DCE) has withheld development projects because the community voted for the NDC in the 2020 elections.
Nana Ashi Nii Quaye, the chief of Dzani, shared his mixed feelings after the NDC parliamentary candidate for Akyem Swedru, Mr. Rahim Taaju, facilitated the installation of a mechanized borehole in the community.
Nana Ashi Nii Quaye revealed that their DCE explicitly told him that because the community voted for the NDC in 2020, they would not receive potable water.
The chief lamented that Dzani lacks basic amenities, including a health center and a school, which forces children to travel long distances to access education. He called on the government to prioritize providing health and education infrastructure for the community.
The NDC parliamentary candidate for Akyem Swedru, Mr. Rahim Taaju, and his party chairman, Daniel Mintah Amoah, helped secure funding from “Islamic Relief USA” and “Africa Relief and Community Development” for the water project.
Residents of Dzani also shared their struggles with accessing water, education, and healthcare, calling for the urgent action to address them.
In response, the DCE for Birim South, Hon. Asare Danso, denied the allegations, stating that the claims of neglect due to voting patterns are false.
