Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party, has threatened to have his head chopped off if the party loses the general election in 2024, demonstrating his belief that the party may still hold power.
Salam Mustapha is seen speaking to party supporters at an event in a widely shared video. He declares his unwavering belief that the NPP would continue to rule come December 7.
“We are not losing the election; let nobody try to convince you NPP is going to lose. I am telling you, if we lose this election, I keep on telling people, ‘cut off my head.’ That is the level of my confidence going into that election,” he stated.
He made it clear that his belief is based on the NPP’s numerical superiority over the National Democratic Congress, the main opposition, particularly in the Ashanti Region, which is the party’s heartland.
“Greater Kumasi alone, just 11 constituencies cancel about five-six regions. If we take the 47 constituencies, it cancels about eight regions out, and still, there is change. In 2020, the NDC had about 600,000 votes in Ashanti Region, which is more than what they got in their own Volta Region. Numbers; that is why I keep saying we need to keep paying attention to the numbers. If we drop the NDC votes in Ashanti Region and the NPP is able to hit 75%, this election is done. So when I look at the numbers; when I study the trend analysis, nobody can convince me NPP is going to lose the elections in December; we are not losing the election.
“We are not going to lose; there are people who think that NPP is done; we have lost. Check the polls; the NPP is gaining, and the NDC is dropping. Last year or early this year, they said they were going to win the election with 58%, and I told someone these people are mad. It is true, the NDC can never win an election with even 52%; they don’t have the numbers. You can quote me anywhere, and any day I will defend it…” he stated.
