On Monday, 23rd September 2024, President Akufo-Addo had the profound honour of receiving the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award in New York City, on the sidelines of the 2024 UN General Assembly.
He accepted this award on behalf of every Ghanaian, whose unwavering belief in a brighter future keeps us pushing forward, even in the face of challenges.
According to the president, he remain deeply committed to the shared values of democracy, justice, and global collaboration—principles that will continue to guide him, even as he near the end of my tenure as President.
At the “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow” also held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, president Akufo-Addo called for urgent, collective action to address the pressing global challenges of climate change, inequality, and the need for reform within the UN Security Council.
“No nation can tackle these issues alone—we must stand together in solidarity. Africa, while contributing the least to global emissions, is bearing the heaviest burden, and it is time for fairness, not charity. Let us seize this moment and commit to building a more just and equitable future for all” he added.
