Legendary midfielder Mohammed Polo believes Hearts of Oak is lacking God’s blessing to perform following recent struggles.
The Phobians have faced challenges, failing to secure a top-ten finish in the league standings. They placed 12th in the preceding two seasons and recently concluded the 2023/24 campaign in 14th position.
Hearts of Oak commenced the recent campaign on a poor note, succumbing to two consecutive defeats in their opening two games. They shockingly lost to debutant Basake Holy Stars in opener followed by a 2-0 defeat to Heart of Lions.
At the weekend, the Phobians recorded their first win of the campaign, defeating Bechem united 2-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Goals from Ransford Mensah and Hamza Issah were enough to hand the Ghanaian giants victory in the thrilling encounter on Sunday.
Polo, who served the Phobians for 21-years in an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM lamented about the ill treatment meted out to the legends of the club.
However, the 1978 AFCON winner insists the club is lacking the blessings of God to perform.
Meanwhile, Polo has advised his former employers not neglect their legends but rather include them in the day-to-day running of the team just like Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and others.
“Poor treatment of players affecting Hearts of Oak. I have been denied several opportunities by the club and I think bad treatment of players has contributed to their recent struggles. Honestly, they lack God’s blessings”
“Asante Kotoko are better off in giving their legends opportunities. In Europe, clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and others always include their legends and it is hard time they learn from them” he added.
Hearts of Oak will travel to Kumasi to face Nations FC in matchday 4 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
