Aggrieved staff of the Volta River Authority ( VRA) have expressed strong opposition to a proposed draft bill that aims to merge VRA with Bui Power Authority, Combine the Electricity Company of Ghana,( ECG) with the Northern Electricity Distribution Company ( NEDCO) and establish an independent thermal power Authority from Volta River Authority VRA thermal plant.
The protesting staff converged at the Akosombo community center,before embarking on match through the principal street of Akosombo amidst singing and drumming.
They carried various placards to express their sentiments primarily kicking against the attempt to privatize VRA Thermal plant.
The protest ended at the Atimpoku roundabout, where the leaders of the group addressed the media.
The chairman of the group, Mr. Joseph Asare argues that these decisions by the government are not in the best interest of Ghanaians and could have severe consequences for the VRA and the Nation.
Mr. Eric Adu Gyan also added his voice saying the price of electricity will go high and average Ghanaians will beat the consequences.
Some female staff expressed claimed privatization wikk lead to job losses.
VRA staff across the country are similarly agitating with some already embarked on demonstrations in Western and Greater Accra Regions.
