World Post Day is celebrated annually on October 9th to commemorate the establishment of the universal postal union (UPU) in 1874.
The UPU connects people and businesses worldwide through postal services.
In view of this, mybrytfmonline reporters, Akosua Asabea Kropa and Mujahidatu Mohammed visited the District Manager, Mrs Juliana Fiadou to discuss the objectives and functions of the Ghana Post.
Speaking to Mrs Juliana Fiadou, the District manager for Koforidua south Ghana post on behalf of the Regional Head and Managing Director about Wold post day in front of the Ghana post in Koforidua on 9th October 2024, she gave the team for this year as “Celebrating 150 years of enabling communication and empowering people across the nation “.
Miss Juliana Fiadou explained that world post day is a celebration that started in Swizz capital in 1847 and was accepted to be celebrated on 9th October of every month.
According to her, the celebration started only in Swizz but was later accepted in the world with Ghana starting the celebration in 1969.
“Today’s celebration is to let the world know how far the postal service have reach .So for the region and everyone to know that today is world post day” she stated.
As part of the celebration, Ghana Post has mounted a stand to sell it’s products, tell people what they do and the services they render.
Some of these services it render are parcels, financial services, letter box, EMS, E-service as well as selling all forms of tertiary education and Security recruitment forms and placements.
Miss Juliana Fiadou again gave some benefits of the digitalization and she said unlike first, it will take a very long time before receiving letters or items but now within takes not more than 5 days.
She also said the Digital Address system is helping in their activities as it make it easy for delivery personnel to locate places of customers.
She added that “People should not think that Ghana post is not working again, we are even working better than the first”.
