The two weeks ultimatum given to President Akufo-Addo to accent to the LGBTQ+ law has been described as unrealistic by the deputy Attorney General and minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah Yeboah.
According to him, there is a pending case at the supreme court that is yet to be heard and adjudicated, hence the president’s inability to accent to the law.
Mr. Tuah Yeboah made the in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on BRYT Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt fm.
He indicated that, president Akufo-Addo and for that matter government is are concerned about the issue and therefore urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint and wait for the outcome of the Richard Dela Sky’s suit at the supreme court.
President Akufo-Addo is yet to accent to the law which was passed by Parliament about a year ago due to the court suit, a situation that has generated a lot of controversial analysis from Ghanaians and even international bodies.
Ningo-Prampram MP Sam Nartey George, colleague politicians and a section of Ghanaians demonstrated against the president’s delay in accenting to the law and therefore demanded for president Akufo-Addo reaction within two weeks.
Meanwhile, the deputy Attorney General has described the demonstration as unnecessary as protestors could have just written to the president and other authorities on the matter rather than taking to the streets.
