The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has interpreted Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant as an indication of God’s sign of victory for the NDC in the upcoming general elections on December 7.
Bagbin granted a motion made by former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
The motion contended that the four Members of Parliament (MPs) in question, Andrew Asiamah (Fomena), Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kojo Asante (Suhum), and Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), had forfeited their seats by announcing their intention to run as independent candidates in the upcoming general elections. This action was deemed to be in violation of the provisions on parliamentary membership found in the constitution.
On Thursday, October 17, Mahama told supporters during a rally at Ningo-Prampram that the developments in Parliament are a sign from God that the party will win elections.
To secure the party’s victory, he called on NDC supporters to be resolute and dedicated in the last months to the polls.
Mahama emphasized that even though the situation was positive, the party still needed to keep up its efforts in order to win the election.
“If the report I am hearing from parliament is true, then something historic has just happened. The report I am hearing is that the speaker has declared 4 seats vacant. Of the 4 seats, 3 are from the NPP and one is from the NDC.
“So if those seats have been declared vacant, then it means in the life of one parliament, the minority has turned to the majority and the majority has turned to the minority. So for me, God is even showing a sign of what is going to happen, but we have to make it a reality on 7th December 2024.
