The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the judiciary have both been accused of overstepping their constitutional roles as enshrined in the constitution of Ghana.
Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Bagbin told the media on Wednesday during his encounter on current issues in the House over declaring of four seats vacant and called on them to seek forgiveness for undermining Parliament’s authority.
At Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium on Wednesday 6th November 2024, the Speaker indicated that Parliament’s authority is being compromised by undue judicial influence, which is casting down to the activities in the House.
Bagbin stated the essence of maintaining a clear separation of powers to build Ghana’s democratic principles as any interference on parliament’s constitutional mandate threatens the country’s democracy.
The Speaker also touched on the President’s refusal to acknowledge the LGBTQ+ law which has been passed by parliament, as one of the examples of the problem as it clearly shows the Executive and Judiciary are in bed.
