The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Asene Akroso Manso Constituency, George Kwame Aboagye, also known as “Oluwa,” has provided compensation to victims of a tragic rally accident that occurred 12 years ago at Akyem Asuboa.
The 2012 incident, which took place during a campaign rally, resulted in the deaths of three supporters and left 13 others severely injured when a vehicle lost control and crashed into the crowd. At the time, Hon. Owusu Boateng was the constituency’s MP. However, victims and their families reportedly received no support, leading to significant discontent.
In a recent gesture, the current MP and the NPP Eastern Regional leadership have presented GHS 10,000 each to the families of the deceased and GHS 5,000 each to the injured survivors as compensation for their losses and pain.
Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Jeff Konadu Addo, expressed gratitude to the victims and their families for their patience and loyalty to the party despite the long delay in compensation. He urged party members to remain steadfast in their support for the NPP as the party gears up for the next elections.
MP George Kwame Aboagye also encouraged party supporters in the constituency to rally behind him and the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ensure victory in the upcoming elections.
The Chief of Akyem Asuboa, Nana Anim Dakwah II, praised the party and the MP for their act of compassion, noting that such recognition of victims is rare among political parties in Ghana.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the compensation, sharing how the injuries had affected their lives over the years. They described the support as a relief after a long wait.
