Joseph Boahen Aidoo, CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board has launched the Eastern women in cocoa cooperative aimed to empower women in cocoa farming and improve their livelihoods.
According to him, he was excited about the launch because it is the first year Ghana has been able to produce cocoa seeds without taking a loan from abroad.
He attributed this success to a decision he made based on a dream he had, advising against taking a loan.
Speaking to Bryt fm news at the launch held at the Jubilee park, the CEO said the initiative is expected to benefit women and their children, providing them with opportunities for economic growth.
“His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured every parent especially cocoa farmers that if they help vote for Bawumia as the next president of Ghana, he is providing every new student of the university a scholarship” Mr. Aidoo stressed.
Osahene Boafo Ansah lll, Akuapem Krontihene on his part also stressed that cocoa farming was something the Okuapeman prioritized the most because cocoa farming originally began from there in 1874 when Tetteh Quarshie brought cocoa seed from Fernando Po.
He emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in cocoa farming, citing their caregiving skills and ability to handle responsibilities.
“Since we are not doing this to only help ourselves alone , that’s why I have invited the chief and some prominent people to join us and help with this cooperation so that our children can also benefit from that” he stated.
He has said that, cocoa farming was formerly only meant for men, but was excited to see women having their own cooperation nowadays as it will help themselves and their children.
“I know bribery and corruption is something that always brings an organization or cooperation down, that’s why today I’m standing here and pleading to everyone that we need peace, and if we have all these we will be able to develop and grow this our cooperation”, the traditional leader said.
Mr. Boahen Aidoo and Osahene Boafo Ansah III urged cooperative members to work together, avoid greed and selfishness and rather help promote peace to ensure the cooperative’s success.
