Despite earlier conversation between the Electoral Commission and the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association on number of media houses to allow cover the collation of election results at both the constituency and regional levels, there was no agreement, according to the Eastern Regional Chairman of the GJA, Maxwell Kudekor.
According to him, the GJA was surprised at a Memo issued to all Regional Directors by the EC restricting man journalists from taking part in this important national exercise.
Mr. Kudekor assured the host of Bryt fm Adekyee Mu Nsem Kwamina Sam Biney that his outfit is currently engaging the electoral body to ensure the matter is well resolved.
He was of the view the decision b the EC would undermine the democratic credentials of the country and therefore thinks the decision by the EC needs to be carefully dealt with
“We have covered several elections in the country but this directive seems a bit different. Even collation centres are normally set up at Community centres and Assembly Halls so there are enough space to host media personnel who come to cover the exercise” he added
Mr. Kudekor, howeer, urged media personnel to exercise restraint on the matter and wait for the outcome of an ongoing discussions.
