Following his victory in the general election of 2024, John Dramani Mahama, the president-elect, has received assurances from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that he will have his support in leading the country.
This guarantee follows Dr Bawumia’s admission of defeat and his congrats to the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on his election victory.
Even as Ghanaians await the official announcement by the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bawumia stressed in a speech to the nation from Accra on Sunday, December 8, that his decision to concede was motivated by a desire to foster unity and uphold peace throughout the nation.
Provisional estimates suggest that John Mahama has won both the presidential and legislative elections with a resounding lead, according to results that are beginning to trickle in from constituencies around the country.
Dr. Bawumia praised his staff and supporters for their commitment and acknowledged the difficulties encountered during the campaign. He asked all Ghanaians and NPP members to maintain composure and put the nation’s development ahead of partisanship.
“As we await the final confirmation from the EC, let us all ensure peace and stability. We must come together as one people to build a better Ghana, regardless of our political affiliations,” he added.
