Agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the New Juaben South constituency were absent from the collation center and failed to sign the results sheets after a disappointing performance in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Despite this, the results were duly signed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) agent and the Electoral Officer.
In the December 7, 2024, presidential election, the Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia of NPP secured 29,830 votes, while John Dramani Mahama of NDC garnered 26,261 votes.
Comparatively, in the 2020 presidential election, the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo obtained 45,070 votes, while the NDC’s John Mahama secured 22,884 votes.
In the parliamentary race:Michael Okyere Baafi (NPP): 32,134 votes while Martin Otu Offei (NDC) had 23,735 votes, Evans Appiah, Independent Candidate had 1,306 votes
This marks a significant decline for Michael Okyere Baafi, who in 2020 won with 47,862 votes against Martin Otu Offei’s 22,884 votes.
NDC parliamentary candidate Martin Otu Offei expressed gratitude to constituents for their trust in him and John Mahama.
Speaking to the media, he credited the outcome to the growing confidence in the NDC’s vision.
Gideon Ofori Akomea, an NDC agent from the party’s headquarters, praised their vigilance during the process, which he claimed prevented any attempts to manipulate the results.
He also assured that the absence of NPP agents to sign the pink sheets would not affect the legitimacy of the results.
