The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), of interfering in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri parliamentary election to favor the incumbent Member of Parliament, Frank Annor Dompreh.
The party has also called for Annor Dompreh’s arrest, alleging that he shot an election observer during the collation process.
Attempts by the EC to resolve the impasse at its Koforidua office, during a meeting with the parliamentary candidates and their political parties, failed.
According to the NDC, their internal collation shows that their candidate, Philbert Fummey, defeated Frank Annor Dompreh.
However, they claim the collation process was disrupted when Annor Dompreh allegedly caused chaos and shot an observer.
Military personnel intervened, halting the collation process, which has now been referred to the EC headquarters in Accra for resolution.
At a press conference, Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, reiterated the party’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity.
He accused Frank Annor Dompreh of undermining the process and emphasized that the NDC would use all legal avenues to ensure justice and the validation of their alleged victories in disputed constituencies.
The NDC also alleges victory for their candidate in Fanteakwa North, Haruna Appau Wiredu, with a margin of about 300 votes. However, disputes over two polling stations have stalled the official declaration.
In Akwatia, the party is demanding a re-run of elections in 12 polling stations due to reported irregularities. They also urged the EC to expedite the collation process for the Suhum constituency.
In the December 7 presidential election, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP) secured 493,234 votes (51.28%), while John Dramani Mahama (NDC) garnered 453,234 votes (47.12%).
Independent candidates Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen polled 6,910 and 1,851 votes, respectively. Total valid votes stood at 961,885, with 21,477 rejected ballots.
